About

Why I built this

I've played chess as a hobby for about four years, climbing from 100 to 1800 (10-minute rapid) on Chess.com — almost entirely on tactics and instinct.

Then I hit a wall. I'd gone about as far as instinct and tactics alone could take me; to keep improving, I needed to actually learn opening theory — and clear, structured resources for that turned out to be surprisingly hard to find.

So I built this site. It started as a way to consolidate my own learning — writing openings down move by move, with the ideas behind each one — so I could keep improving. Along the way it turned into something worth sharing, in case it helps anyone else who has hit the same wall and wants to learn openings properly.

What's inside

  • Each opening is split into short parts you click through move by move.
  • Every move comes with the idea behind it, in plain language — not just notation.
  • Lines are checked against an engine, so assessments stay honest, including when a position is simply equal.

Glad you made it this far! If this site has helped your chess, feel free to buy me a coffee ☕
