About

Why I built this

I've played chess as a hobby for about four years, climbing from 100 to 1800 (10-minute rapid) on Chess.com, mostly through tactics and instinct.

The reason

Then I hit a wall. I'd gone about as far as instinct and tactics alone could take me; to keep improving, I needed to actually learn opening theory. Clear, structured resources for that turned out to be surprisingly hard to find.

So I built this site to consolidate my own learning: openings written down move by move, with the ideas behind each one. It became worth sharing for anyone else who wants to learn openings properly.

How lessons work

  • Press Step to advance through each key teaching moment, where a small group of moves plays together and the explanation updates. Use the arrow buttons to go forward or back one move at a time when you want to inspect the exact move order.
  • Each move explains the idea behind it, so you understand the plan instead of memorizing notation.
  • Lines are engine-checked, with honest notes when a position is equal, risky, or comfortable.
