Alien Gambit

Intermediate
white repertoire·7 parts

The Alien Gambit, a wild surprise weapon against the Caro-Kann. White sacrifices a knight on f7 to drag Black's king into the open and hunt it down. It isn't sound — calm defence keeps the extra piece — but that calm is hard to find over the board, and it scores extremely well in real games.

Main idea

After White sacrifices a knight to drag Black's king out into the open, attack it at once — hit it with quick checks (Qf3+, Bc4+) and develop fast so it can never castle to safety.

Convert your lead in activity before Black untangles the extra piece.

Key Strategic Ideas

The whole idea in one place: leap the knight to g5, sacrifice it on f7, and chase the bare king with every piece. You're giving up a knight for a single pawn, so this is a surprise weapon for fast games, not a sound opening.
